We had our wedding planned here for 6 months ! And because of the lack of professionalism and follow up - the events cooredenator dropped the ball - we sent out all our invitataions and set up all plans around this venue only to be told we did not sign a contract and they will not honor our emails . What i think of this place is - a huge dissapointment ! Dont deal with Linda if you want something done right ! Pissed off bride to be!

It's an amazing location. Rustic. Artistic. Wood. Stone. We liked it so much we got married here. A decision we have never regretted.

This was my second visit to the Alton Mills Art Centre and I enjoyed it as much as my first visit. The second floor artist studios are the dominant attraction for me. The studios are open to visitors when the artists are on site and most of them enjoy chatting with visitors and discussing their art. The studios have huge windows with natural light and are very spacious. There are several artisan shops and galleries on the main floor with unique and high quality products. The basement is used for receptions and was busy the day of our visit. A portion of the main floor has been preserved in its original condition to show the mill wheel and display artifacts from the industrial history of the building.

Lovely drive to get to here - this is a artist haven where they work and sell their creations. Always lots going on - so check the schedule on-line.

Such a quiet place to enjoy the outdoors. Art sculptures along the river are interesting. Many activities through the year. Elegant place with sophistication. You would never know they made rubber products in the past

Alton is a beautiful small town nestled in nature. The Mill has been brilliantly restored, giving an old building a new purpose in life. The amazing variety of art and working studios should mean that everyone will be pleased, no matter how varied their tastes.I recently attended a wedding here and it was such a beautiful setting. You could stroll the gallery or the surrounding natural area or just enjoy the wedding itself and reception. It was the only wedding ever been to where they had a fire pit :-) There's a nearby restaurant and it's only about a minute from the Millcroft Inn. It's a great getaway!

What a true gem. Beautiful location. The art works are varied and original . Beautiful building , lovely atmosphere and the works if you are in the market are well priced. Truly worth a visit .

A very pleasant place to stroll through, view and buy art. There were several items we would have loved to buy if we lived somewhere to which it would be easy to transport the art.

This gallery is a magical place where everyone can find something to do. There were three stories of the gallery. The basement is where old machinery was left behind, parts that's made the Mill operate as well as tools that made clothing dated back to 1800's those tools that used fleece and wool to make clothing. The ground floor has paintings and drawings, upstairs too, you can also find hand made jewelery, sculptures and photography arts. The greatest treasures are behind the mill. They are outdoor sculptures and hidden masks in the middle of the streams, so be sure to keep your eye out for them. Have your camera ready.

I see signs for the Alton Mills Art Centre but never thought much of it until I had some time to visit it and see what it was about. I wanted to see it before I made an effort to bring others out that way, from the city. What a wonderful surprise it was! The location is just picturesque, peaceful and magical place, hidden away from the main street of Alton. I have seen it on a normal weekend day and when they held their Cuisine-Art festival (festival costs money to eat/drink but not to browse--but you'll want to eat/drink!. The galleries etc all don't charge patrons). On both occasions, I had the opportunity to see a different light of the location. To think that the developers originally were considering to make it a condo is just mind-blowing because this is so much better. If you like nature and/or art or even just looking for a nice quiet place to get away from the city, this is it. You can go and speak to the artists in their studios or you can sit and get something to eat in the cafe. You never feel pressured to buy anything or rushed through the studios/galleries. In addition, the Bruce Trail is just a stone's throw away so if you wanted, you could head out that way for a brief hike as well, or come on horseback. To visit the galleries, you might spend a couple hours but if you wanted to go hiking too, I'd book in more.I would highly suggest anyone from the city, looking for a nice day trip, to go. And, if you're vacationing from further away or for longer, it's worth visiting because you can certainly go for as long as you want and several times for you'll find something interesting. I would also consider the venue for an event since it's well put together for something like that.

My husband and I discovered the Alton Mill after we had visited the Millcroft Inn for lunch. We wandered around the studios in the centre and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There were lots of things to look at and buy(although no one pressured us for a sale):paintings done in different mediums, sculptures, wood carvings, jewelry and even a lovely little flower shop that smelled divine inside. In one of the studios we saw an artist, Janet Simmons Sweet, working on a rather large canvas. She stopped her work and was only too willing to talk to us about her work. Not being a painter I learned some things about oil painting and was VERY envious of her talent, which she has in buckets. Her passion for painting was very evident. What a treat to get to talk to her. I plan on going back to see her private show in September.

It is so worth the trip. It is so fitting to have this lovely heritage building and its grounds as the back drop for art. The setting is in the picturesque village of Alton. Before entering the Mill, I decided to stroll the grounds. At each turn, there seemed to be a wonderful treasure in the form of art to greet me.There were some lovely outdoor pieces to admire, inspire and muse. The Mill itself is a wonderful structure which by itself is a joy to take in. I spent about an hour looking at the difference pieces and the structure. There were pottery, paintings, antiques and jewelry. I totally enjoyed my afternoon.

This trip was a 40 minute journey from Oakville into the coutryside. The mill itself is in a very pretty setting with a mill wheel and gushing brook as you would expect and even a trail to follow for all you walkers. The art displayed inside in the various studios was very interesting and something for everybody. All the artists work with different mediums - there were some beautiful wooden pieces, some lovely silver jewellery and vibrant colourful paintings. We especially enjoyed the work of Lucille Webber and would reccomend a visit and encourage everyone to support your local artistic talent.

Loved this place for its combination of history, diverse art work and nature. There is something for everyone here. We went there on Mother's Day and found out that it was the last day that the Shaw's Creek Cafe would be open. The owner who owns With the Grain Cafe and Bakery in Guelph wants to focus on her Guelph businesses. I was thankful that I had a chance to eat the good food from the cafe one more time. I was told that the cafe was going to be taken over by a new owner as of May 12, 2014. It is worth the 45 minutes drive here from Guelph as the country road to get there is scenic as well. You can walk through the forest across from the Mill to get to the Millcroft Inn and Spa which also has its own beautiful sites to see. Check out the centre's website for upcoming events.
