With family a bonding experience mounting this 'mountain'. There are 600+ steps. Nice work out indeed, you can run/hike it up within 10 minutes if you are in shape. Is a bit of a drive from hotels. For directions: take route 4 East from 1B (thats a left if you are traveling South on 1B), go straight on this road for 3 to 4 miles, while you pass 4 roundabouts before you hit a small town Piedra Platta, once through there take a right just behind the El Paisa, Radiator Services shop. This road takes you to the bottom of the hill within 1/2 km.Not suitable for elderly. For fitness types, Strava records the hike up, there is a top 10 you can compete with.

Have climbed this mountain several times. 650 steps don't sound like much but they are steep. Normally takes us 12-14 minutes each way. Nice breezy view and not crowded.

We enjoyed the walk up the 600+ concrete steps and the 360 degree views from the top but we barely found it since there is not a single sign indicating where to turn off road 4. Unfortunately, it is very trashy and ugly up there. Instead of making it nice, there are two concrete sheds with multiple antennas on top and loads of cable conduit along the ground that one could trip over (not just a few - a lot). Also a giant pile of rusty metal. It is too bad because there is so much potential there.

Great mountain to climb with a great view when you reach the top! Now that we are older we can't do it any more sorry to say.

Takes approximately 15 minutes to reach the top. It's friendly for those who do not work out so don't get discouraged! There are plenty of places where you can stop for a short rest and enjoy the view.Once atop, there is actually not much space to move around. If you go through 2 medium sized bushes, you'd be able to stand on the edge and have a wonderful view overlooking the whole island, but PLEASE BE CAREFUL. Overall, it's an enjoyable hike up and very easy to get to. You won't miss it ;)

The Hooiberg stairs offer some great 360 views of Aruba, and the "hike" is not very strenuous at all! It was a great outing and a nice change of pace from all the other islands activities! The top is windy, so watch out, and try not to get caught in the dark. It seems like there are lots of local folks running/moving the stairs for exercise so you might see a few on your way up or down and few of the sections are fairly narrow. Make sure you get some directions, it's kind of off the beaten path in the middle of a nowhere neighborhood area.

First, you go on what seems to be an off road trail and right before you loose track of where you are, you arrive to this place, depending on the time, you will meet a couple locals getting ready to reach the top of Aruba. It is the best workout for your butt! and when you reach the top you will feel how worth it it is... too bad it is not in the best conditions. That place could really use the love of its community to make it a VERY NICE local and international attraction.

As with most of the other reviews, it's a great workout. Too bad there weren't more stairs. The view was pretty great. I wish I would have discovered the stairs at the beginning of my holiday as opposed to the 2nd last day of our trip.

Great workout t walk all the stairs to the top. It's best to go early in the morning when it's not hot yet, otherwise it might get sweaty. Take some water with you along with a camera and may be binoculars to enjoy the view at the top.. The top itself is buuilding and fence to house antenna's..

This is definitely worth going up to the top and looking out over the ocean and the island. Its like they built these nice stairs and rails to the very top and then just stopped at the top. We had to walk around a bunch of wires, metal pieces, and some other stuff in order to get a good look at the island and ocean. Beautiful spot and fun climb, but don't expect a "lookout area" when you get to the top, you have to make your own path.

585 steps to the top and then 585 steps down!!! My legs still hurt. I can say that I climbed a mountain. The view is good but I wish that they would trim some of the cacti and trees to make the view a little better.

There are 643 steps up but it goes quickly. I was up in 15 minutes. Not as difficult as hiking a national park or climbing a mountain. Great exercise, I wouldn't mind doing this a few times a week. Watch out at the very top because it is somewhat rocky, but the views are tremendous. I think every visitor should ascend the hill because it shows the island in a new perspective.

Amazing from the top of the hooiberg... You also see Venezualian coasts from it! It's hard to get the top but you'll be happy and proud to do it!!

from the top there was a nice view. Just don't go if it's midday, it will be too hot to go up. It was great exercise to walk all those stairs for your beachbody ;)

The climb is a great way to work off some of the drinks you've been having on the beach. That said, if you're in it for the views, especially from the top, you'll be disappointed. When we were there, there was the added bonus of it smelling strongly of urine everywhere at the summit. Not a great environment in which to catch your breath. The top is unsightly, littered with graffiti (not the interesting to look at, artistic kind, just scribbles) and, well, litter, and filled with communications towers. Its utility for cell towers and the like is understandable, given that it's the highest point on the island, but at the top you can't get a clear view of anything without some sort of pole(s) or enormous cactus blocking it. You do see enough to appreciate that if they made some sort of lookout just below the summit, the views would be worth it.
