Okay this was my first time on Saba and Mt. Scenery's main entrance climb was right near where I stayed. I was with my girlfriend and we wanted to hike it! It had been raining a lot so we had no idea what we were in for and the hiking shop was closed. Being the adventurers we are we stupidly did it anyways. Our hotel knew we were going...I think. FIRST of all, always let someone know you are going up. So we start the stairs...you hike up stone carved stairs for what seems like forever as you rise up into the jungle cover. Then the mud happened. It was so muddy all over. So this made steps slippery and even harder. My girlfriend runs marathons so she was less tired! I however...I took pictures as I stopped to catch my breath! As we got closer we remembered our local taxi lady (who rocked) told us to go Right not Left because of the mud. So we did. Good thing because the other side was worse. However, the side we took was awful as well. Pretty much I was putting down giant leaves to at least try and not sink too far in my sneakers. There are many ways to slip and fall or twist an ankle so be careful! We finally got to the top and it was thick fog or actually clouds! We had no idea we were there. They should add more signs as you go up. We saw a big rock and got on it...then saw that it was overlooking the world...um...we could have fallen. So be careful! It was very windy as well. I am sure the view was amazing...but not that day. Still it was awesome we made it up there without backing down. If you took the other side do know there is a big rope that helps you pull yourself along...we checked it out. We did the climb in less than an hour but it can take much longer I hear. It was worth it but I want to do it when the weather is better and it is less slippery. We passed some other hikers but not many. It was new years day so it was quiet. Take some water and be prepared to get dirty if it has rained.

My wife and I just returned from an eight day visit to Saint Martin and Saba. Without hesitation, our 30 hours spent on Saba may have been the most memorable. I am diver, but I would have cancelled my one tank dive to experience a full day along Mount Scenery with my wife. The views are breathtaking, the flora is vibrant in colors and the tranquility is timeless. As I did make an afternoon single tank dive (which I would recommend), we hiked the Mount Scenery trail the next morning before our flight back to Saint Martin. The cloud cover was low, but we opted to hike along Maskehorne Hill Trail, just below Mount Scenery. Be sure to check in with the trail shop just below the entry point. We met an amazing woman who shared her love for the mountain and land of Saba. The Maskehorne Hill Trail ends at 1,795 feet, but the views are stunning from every angle. We hiked without trekking poles, but it may not be a bad idea for future climbs. The trail is well kept and we only encountered one other person, a fellow Midwesterner whose husband teaches at the local medical college. This is a hike of a lifetime, even if you don't summit Mount Scenery. A highlight of our vacation, we spent several minutes perched on a rock face absorbing the beauty that is Saba.

A group of us went hiking for the day. This hike is quite strenuous but rewarding once completed. Views at the top were not great as clouds can obstruct the view. Not sure I would do this hike again but very glad I did it.

If you are a hiker, this is the hike for you. Start at the entrance by the queens garden and you can hike through a quiet rainforest before getting to the infamous stairs. The foliage changes with the elevation changes. The trails are clearly marked- when you get to the top, go to the communication tower for the bestView you can imagine. One thing to note, If it rained the night before be careful on the stairs down, they can be a little slippery.

Hiking on Mount Scenery was a incredible experience. The views are great and you really feel like you are one with nature. On the way to the top you will see a wide variety of flowers, trees and birds. Wear proper shoes and take a stick because the steps can be very slippery.

Nice and fairly easy climb. We did in in reasonably dry conditions but I can imagine in the wet it's very slippy as we came a cropper a couple of times. Take poles for the way down . I'm so glad my husband insisted on taking them as on the descent it was slippy. There was no view the day we did it as too much cloud. Back on anguilla a few days later it was clear as anything. Sod's law in operation again. The forest is great!

the hike looks relatively easy till you get to mid way. The steps onwards are carved from the rocks and it's tiring on the knees and thigh. 2 summits at the top and recommend both. one is easy walk the other will be a muddy path and need to pull a rope to get up. btw, get the certificate from the tourist office instead. : )

Rather easy hiking to Mt Scenery, a potentially active volcano and the highest point in the Netherlands (887m). The trail itself is nice and it can give you a good impression of the Caribbean rain forest. Before I have hiked in more than 15 Caribbean islands - Mt Scenery is not the best but it's worth to do, especially when the sky is clear and you can get a nice view of Saba from the top. When I started hiking (around 8am) the weather was perfect but unfortunately when I reached the mountain top at 10:30am, the weather changed and it was covered with clouds so saw almost nothing. If it's cloudy I advise to take a hike only to the Maskehorne Hill (app. 15-20 mins one way from Windwardside). There is a very clear sign in the trail showing direction to this hill so you will not miss a turn. The view to Windwardside from this hill is beautiful.Try avoid hiking the trail in the rain since the steps get very slippery, especially at the top of the mountain.

We hiked up Mount Scenery starting at the trail head above Queen's Garden in the Bottom. Many, many, stairs, but a great view at the top! Make sure you bring a walking stick as steps can get slippery on the way down.

What a beautiful, beautiful island. The vistas were breathtaking. The hiking was fun. The foliage was lush. The island is nicely maintained.

We have taken this hike when the mountain top was completely covered in a thick layer of clouds. As a result, when we reached the top, we saw absolutely nothing, so keep that in mind. The hike, though very steep, is easy to follow, with lots of supporting steps here and there.Even if the summit is covered in clouds, make sure you hike to the Maskehorne Hill, which has the best views of Windwardside. Most of Windwardside pictures you can find on google are taken from the Maskehorne Hill.Once on the Mount Scenery trail, hike for about 30 minutes and then, you will see a sharp turn left. From there, it's a five minute walk to the top of Maskehorne Hill, which has a pretty wide rocky surface void of any trees. The trail Mount Scenery is easy to find - almost right after you leave Windwardside in the direction of The Bottom, you will see the trail sign on the right.Avoid the hike altogether if it rains - you will be covered in mud and see nothing at all.

Great hike, about One and half Hour round trip, with great view of the rain forest, Windwardside and the caribbean sea.I do not recommend doing this hike after rainy Day or in the rain. The steps get very slippery. Do not forget to stop by the tourist office after your hike to claim your certificate of conquering the highest point in the Dutch kingdom.

This is a very taxing hike and the view is often obscured when you arrive. The aerials and rubbish atop the mountain detract from the experience and Saba should really clean the place up and install some safe viewing platforms. Sandy Cruz offers similar pleasure with less struggle.

wear a good pair of sneakers/climbing shoes and be ready for a beautiful hike if the weather is clear.

We only hiked a small portion, during a day trip to Saba. Walked downhill from road back to Windwardside. Steep trail, but easy footing. Very pleasant unspoiled forest. Wish I were staying longer so I could have done the actual hike all the way up Mt Scenery, area is beautiful.
