I had a great family trip at La Paseadora in Rio Espiritu Santo. A boat owned by locals takes you through the river for an hour and a half trip. It is very relaxing and the tour guides were very friendly and welcoming. This trip is great for the whole family. You can enjoy the wild life and learn about the history of the river.

These people are very accommodating and informative! There were beautiful views of wild life and native foliage... They even had snacks on board. They didn't have an english speaking tour guide the day we went but my husband translated the important stuff to me so all was good. One of the more enjoyable parts of our vacation!!! We will probably do this every time we go to Puerto Rico. A new tradition!

We had a great time kayaking the Rio Espiritu Santo with a two person kayak rented from La Paseadora. The people who helped us were awesome and very helpful. We started out heading upriver to the small waterfall then back downriver about 2.5 miles to the ocean. The entire trip was about 4.5 miles and was accented by many water birds--herons, kingfishers and ducks-- and also the game of "can you spot the iguana in the tree" kept us occupied as we headed back upstream from the ocean. BTW the current is fairly mild so it is not a difficult paddle but you do notice there is a current by the time you return.. We did get caught in 2 downpours but the weather was warm so it was fine and the rental people gave us a huge Ziploc to put the camera into "just in case". When we returned from our paddle they were kind enough to share freshly fried plaintains and dipping sauce with us---just the right snack in Puerto Rico after a good paddle. They also offer a 2 hour motorized boat tour of the river for those who prefer a motor to paddling. The boat tour requires a group of 10 so please call ahead and make reservations (787-614-5144) or email at: rioespiritusanto@hotmail.com. This is a new business so please check them out.

My family and I discovered this hidden treasure during our summer vacation. This boat trip takes you down the Espiritu Santo River up to the open ocean. During the boat ride, the tour guide provides information on the history of the River, the flora, fauna while you get to see turtles, lizards, birds, etc.I recommend every family to stop and take the boat ride prior to visiting the Yunque National Rain Forrest. You will not be disappointed.
