quiet, clean warm water, few beach vendors and no harassing. A bit of rains here and there but no one controls the weather.

Playa El Portillo is one of the most pristine beaches I’ve seen on my many Caribbean travels. It is gorgeous palm forest with white sands, calm and clear waters and plenty of water sports such as kite surfing, and other activities. The beach is long and wonderful for those who enjoy walking; it is very scenic and picturesque with many unique photo-op opportunities. Unlike Punta Cana, there aren’t very many resorts along the shore. The beach is protected by the barrier reef making it calm and enjoyable for swimming. Although there is quite a bit of reef and coral, there are nice sandy areas for swimming. Snorkelling is awesome so bring your mask and fins and enjoy the sights and marine life.

The beach is not taken care of at all so the algae accumulates on the sand, rotten and attracts lots of insects. This a place to go see but not to spend a "beach day"

Warm water even though is the Atlantic, clear water, not deep or waves. It was a great week which we spent mostly at the sea.

Portillo Beach is not as clean as many of the others but it is a decent enough place to go to. There are a lot of homes nearby and many of the owners can be found on the beach so it is pretty safe here.

Really enjoyed my morning strolls on this beautiful beach. Lovely soft sand, I like to stroll without my sandals and I could. You could walk a great distance and not be encumbered by any obstacles. The view of the mountains in the distance was also very pretty. You could also snorkel in this area but I did not give it a try as I was too consumed with enjoying the sea breezes and sunshine!

Nice beach, however, when you consider the many other beautiful beaches in the area this one is just average ....

I stayed here in a friend's place, an amazing wood house in front of the beach, we spend the whole day snorkeling and riding the boat and drinking in the beach with friends, i was in a zen vibe the whole day with the fact i wasn't even doing yoga.

I disliked so many corals everywhere. The temperature of the water was very good. Not too many waves

Great place for a starting point to become snorkelling enthusiastic. Take a good walking through the beach on the early morning and avoid it in the end of the day due to the mosquitos !!

Stayed at El Portillo 8/16 - 8/23 with a group of over 40. Amazed by how hospitable all the staff were. Clean hotel; (staff cleaning all day) great food; white sand beach and turquoise sea. Daily entertainment with the animation crew at the beach, pool, theatre and Disco. Not good with the names but a few stuck with me (Yovanny (Chocolata); Juan Luis (Excelente'); Sanko and others. These guys work all day getting vacationers involved in the activities and always had a smile on their faces. The front desk managers were all very helpful in whatever you needed help with. Definitely will return because they treat you like family.
