I went with a tour that was doing only the bottom 12 cascades of the 27, because they are slightly larger and more suited for groups. As a tourist, I would not recommend doing this activity on your own. The welcome center is setup to accept hundreds of visitors. They loan you a hard hat, life jacket and you can rent water shoes. There is a little shop if you forgot something. The adventure starts with a 45 minute walk that is mostly uphill. It rained earlier and the path was very muddy which made it easy to slip. Minimalist steps and ramps help going through steep areas. We stopped twice to catch our breath. We drank a water bottle supplied at the beginning. Now the thrilling and beautiful part begins. It is possible to avoid the slides and jumps if you are going for the view but you would still need to walk in water and swim in some areas. There are also some steep steps to cross over some dangerous areas. To summarize, two of the cascades we could jump from about 3m (10') or slide. Water level is very uneven so jump were told by the guide. We slide or pass by the other cascades. Slides vary from 1m to 3m, are slightly uneven but have no roughness. Water has carved this creek in stone, making unique and beautiful shapes. In some areas, walls on each sides are about 13m (40') high. When done, we have a 30 minute walk on a flat, muddy and rocky path that crosses the water many times. Back at the center, we had a nice lunch: local hamburgers, hot dogs and limited but tasty hot dishes were available in a buffet. If I go again, I would bring my camera with a waterproof plastic bag and do all the 27 cascades to admire this unique nature's beauty.

Ladies make sure you wear a one piece swim suit. Just trust me on this one!!! And bring your own water shoes you will need them. This is the best attraction in the Dominican.

We had a good time here. We read other reviews that told us to bring water shoes but water shoes are available there to rent for a couple of dollars. Make sure you pay for 12 falls though as there is a fun jump of 30' that isn't available on the shorter package of 7 waterfalls. It's a fairly long walk to the top but worth the effort. This was our best excursion in the area.

This should be renamed to 1 waterfall because that's how many we got to do during our tour. We decided to try the waterfalls during our stay in puerto plata....turned out to be a rainy day and instead of providing everyone a refund they decided to put their lives in danger . there were people in the group that couldn't swim and had to be saved.. one of the helpers also said the place should have been shut down that day(in spanish) even some of the other people in my group that can swim were complaining about how strong and dangerous the water was.. bad idea.. seems like a good idea on a rainy day but what's the point if they only take you to one waterfall.. nette_smiles review was very accurate. once they take your money they will run for the hills. after this you'll eat, get drunk on the way back to the hotel with a stop at a local souvenir shop. kids will run after the bus for tips, don't forget to bring candywater shoes cost 2$ to rent

I booked this excursion through Louis from City Tour, he works as a vendor on the Playa Dorado beach along the resorts. During the time my sisters and I signed up we ask several times if this was recommended for people who could not swim (none of us can swim) he said yeah you didn't have to get in the water if you didn't want and there was one part where the water was shallow and you can walk through it and take pictures..this was soooo far from the truth. On our way in the jeep tour we asked our tour guide if it was ok if we couldn't swim he laughed at the idea of us not being able to swim and said it would be ok. Yet another lie. After we hike up the mountain we find out that we have to jump or slide into these waterfalls and then swim to the other side, did I mention we can't swim??!!! Well this turned into an episode of survivor and ended up being a rescue mission for the poor fellas that worked there. Our inability to swim and fear of heights made this one disastrous adventure. 2 terrific gentleman from Canada, Peter and Jamie who just so happened to be on the tour with us helped us get through 7 of these waterfalls ( we had to do 7 to get to the exit) along with staff and we managed not to drown. Looking at the pictures this place seemed very beautiful and actually it is but if you CAN NOT SWIM i would not recommend this tour. I'm rating this tour average because I couldn't see the beauty through the fear, we mentioned several times to several people we could not swim and I believe they should not have allowed us to do the tour as this put our lives and the staff in danger. I really blame Louis but I'm sure he cared more about getting our money for the excursion then our safety.

Best excursion we had in Puerto Plata. We did all 27 waterfalls. You hike about 45 minutes and jump/slide down 27 waterfalls. Extremely beautiful. We went with Marysol Tours and got a huge discount by asking just for a ride to the location instead of doing a full tour. Please do not miss this adventure. We went with 12, 25-35 year olds...hungover, some still drunk from the previous night ... and we all survived.

We booked the 12 waterfall excursion with Puerto Plata Runners through our hotel. It was an awesome experience. It was so much fun sliding and jumping into the falls. I felt like we were at a natural water park. The waterfalls and scenery were beautiful. It was very safe. They provided us with a life vest and helmet. Make sure to wear water shoes or you can rent them for $2. Also bring a waterproof camera or get a waterproof case for your phone to take pictures. We also bought a video that the tour company made of us, which was nice to watch when we got home. I highly recommend this to everyone.

make sure you book a "private tour" and do all 27 waterfalls . tour buses only do bottom 12!!Be prepared for a 45 minute walk uphill and some minor injuries like scraped elbows and a hurt tailbone when I hit bottom (3 times) . Don't be chicken and do the 35 foot jump ...you only live once!!

It was an awesome experience to see the falls. Jumping and sliding the whole way down was something I have never done before so it was a lot of fun! I would recommend IT for sure! A couple things to keep in mind we did have to hike uphill for 35 mins or so. One thing that was terrible was the lunch that they served us after we got back I couldn't eat a single thing it was awful. Other than that it was great!

Best time ever - Very adventurous and exciting. Hard to do but fun! I highly recommend this activity.
