I went to Gumasa beach for a two-day vacation and I stayed in Coco Beach then White Haven Resort. The sand is white and fine. The water is very clear. SomePeople compare it Boracay's sand and water but I honestly think Gumasa is a little notch lower than Boracay's. But the absence of so many tourists makes Gumasa better than Boracay if you want a peaceful vacation. There's a small sand bar you can walk, swim or paddle to. The water is very clear and calm on most days of the year.

First of all, this can't compare with Boracay even at a long distance. I read the blog on choosephilippines.com by Ida Nanette Damo and it is just a bunch of lies. If you happen to be in General Santos it is worth going, but not flying there for this purpose. Don't trust the reviews and blogs written by locals, as most of them lack the richer reference framework westerners tend to have. Neither the sand (coarse cream) or the ocean (pale) can compare to the fine white sands or the intensity of the ocean in Boracay. There are a few resorts: -Isla Jardin in it's own palm fringed cove is cheaper than the other ones and has nice traditional Nipa huts with aircon facing the beach, but the beach is narrow, the sand is gray and very coarse, it is full of corals and trash and the staff doesn't bother cleaning. To make things worse the always have company events so it gets crowded.-Coco, Rosal and White Heaven beach resorts: this is a larger and broader beach and these people clean the beach. The construction is more modern. It is not a palm fringed beach but the sand is definitely much better and the ocean is prettier and quiet.Bear in mind that these are all local places, managed by locals, so don't expect too muchMy overall advise is pass on Gumasa, unless you happen to be in GenSan

Boracay quality of sand grain and crystal clear water. Minus the tourists and the malls and bars thriving along the beach side. No parties, no booze, no sexy buds around. Just the sun, the wind and the beach. No paraw disturbing the view, no loud music irritating your eardrums, no peddlers and vendors meddling your sun bathing, no eye sore buildings and ugly huts around the beach. Yes it might be boring to the party animals, but truly for a beach bum and to those who seek laid back lifestyle and wants a little bit of privacy, Gumasa is the place to be. You can choose any beach in the area and lay your mat and relax. If you are lucky enough, there are locals who are very generous enough to share their fresh catch with you as a token for visiting their place. Hopefully the local government will not welcome some developers in this very pristine beach.

an hour trip from general santos city to gumasa. We passed by the Saranggani Capitol. Had a day full of fun at white haven beach resort. Entrance fee is only 50 pesos per head and a cottage fee of 500, very afforadable. they have also aircon rooms for those who wish to stay overnight. they have a restaurant serves grilled fish and etc. they have very limited food to offer but for those who want to have variety of food to eat, it is advisable to buy foods while you are in general santos city

We all know boracay--- flooded with tourist.. restaurant and hotels everywhere. Since we hate congested beach...we tried the GUMASA beach in Sarangani province. Just 2 1/2 hr drive from general Santos city-- the drive was all worth it when I first saw the place--- I thought white sand beaches only exists in boracay-. We stayed in rosal... foods are great..plus cheap...fresh and delicious. God is great indeed for deviding Philippines with 7100 island and all this island has its own unique beauty. I am lucky...-

White Sand, Clear Waters, Seafoods are sold 3 folds cheaper outside places of Sarangani and Gensan... We bought a whole blue marlin (5kls) for only 500, Php100 per kilo... We stayed at Rosal Resort, you can have the villa there ranging from 6000 to 7000 and they also have open cottages plus the camp sites to camp...

I visited here in January 2014 with the wife and her family members and kids , it was a sunny day and our group enjoyed the day , the kids loved the beach . we had a aircond cottage to use for our stay , it did the job but I would not want to stay here overnight as there was no wifi and no telly , but if you are fine with that and just want the peace and quiet then this is for you , we brought our own food for our stay from 9am till 6 pm .there was a charcoal grill at the back . The beach at our end had rocks and coral so it was not easy to wade around but further down at the non air cond cottages the beach was more sandy , its a lovely spot to spend a family day bonding , anymore then a day would be too much I say , 1 night stay be fine and for couples wanting to just enjoy each others company and late night walks along the beach in the moon light , this is also for you , note the restaurant closes at 10 pm so you on your own after that

Yes it is the Boracay of the south in terms of how lovely the place is.But is a quiet one, serene and well preserve. Our stay was a great experience, we only stayed for one night but if we could stay for more, we would have stayed for a week. Tourists were minimal, it was as if we own the entire beach. Beachfront was wide and clean, the water was clear, the surroundings were magnificent.

    - White Beach? check.- Pristine water? check.- Beautiful sunrise/sunset? Check.- No Starbucks, McDonald's, huge resorts, etc. in sight? check. This is the place for real R&R and local families enjoying their holiday. I feel like we get a good taste of local culture whenever we visit here. Love it.

When in General Santos City, take time to visit the beaches. There are 3 resorts that offer day cottages and overnight rooms as well.

Very attractive strip of sand with some coral and associated tropical fish.
