We booked a 10 night stay in Japan (7 nights eastern Hokkaido with car hire and 3 nights Tokyo) with Inside Japan Tours between 22 April and 2 May 2014. During our 2-night stay in Tsurui Hotel Taito, we (two British males and one Japanese female) telephoned this horse park at about 9am on 28 April 2014. Hitoshi kindly let us reserve a 70 min horse trek into the nearby woods for about 5400 JPY per person that same morning at about 1030hrs. Our Japanese friend had no prior riding experience, but she was put completely at ease, with our three ponies tethered by tail tie. Hitoshi led on his horse and gave a helpful running commentary about the countryside we passed through. indicating the local wetlands, plants and trees. At this time of year, spring had not yet arrived, but there was still plenty to see. It was my first experience of hacking in a tail-tied, four-equine formation and the co-operation between the three female ponies and Hitoshi's gelding was rather endearing to be part of, particularly during the climbs and descents of the slopes during the 70 mins. route. Afterwards Hitoshi showed us some of the other equines the park keeps and I was allowed a short moment to try riding one of the three ponies around the park's arena. This was a fantastic, friendly place with unhurried and helpful staff and I commend it to others, including complete novice riders.
