I actually planned this visit along with the Otaru day visit. Stopped at the minami otaru station but the otaru kicho station is nearer ( the one for Grand Otaru Hotel)Very very small marketThe only sushi place was a mom and pop shop with ticketed food. The uni was not fresh at allDon't bother

Otaru was our first stop after reaching Hokkaido. Our hotel is Grand Park Otaru and we were surprised that there were two fish markets that were within 10 mins walking distance of the hotel. So on the first morning, we decided to check out the Shinnantaru Market. The market opens at 9am, while some shops open slightly earlier. What we were aiming for was actually our first sashimi breakfast in Hokkaido, to kick start the day. When we arrived at 8:30am, the restaurant within the market was still closed. A shopkeeper selling seaweed approached us and helped to check with the restaurant owner what time they are ready for business, despite us not buying any thing from her. We were sincerely touched by her hospitality. The small restaurant opened at about near 9:30am and we tasted the freshest seafood we ever had. The sea urchin tasted different from the ones we had in Singapore because it didn't have that funky smell and it blended so well in our mouths with the rice and wasabi.One tip to note is that the ordering is via a ticket machine. You pay first and a ticket is dropped for you to pass it on to a staff for order. You have to be careful to choose the correct food based on the picture or Japanese characters (if you can match them). My husband ordered his Kaisen Don wrongly and it came out as Sushi. Nevertheless, it was just as delicious. We were treated by the chef to a complimentary savoury chicken karaage, and that really made our morning.The market also had an ice cream stand where we had our first milky Hokkaido ice cream. Definitely an experience to wake up to at the beginning of our trip.

The Shinnantaru Market is always full of tourists looking for a good buy of Japanese Pre-packed Seafood and snacks. I find this market value for money and the choices excellent. One can also taste some of the products that are on sale. My fellow travelers went wild on their purchases. The rows and rows of seafood variety available for sale is just unbelievable. All variety of massive sized crabs, prawns, ocean fresh fish, and shell fish are on display and for sale.I would highly recommend the market as a must when in Otaru, Hokkaido.

As this is the market we had fresh sashimi for lunch , we bought some fresh vegetables like straw mushroom , cherry tomatoes , some dried scallop , as I think it's much cheaper here compare to the tourist street in otaru . There's a electrical shop in the building .

Highlight of our trip where we had a good sized live King Crab and a large scallop cooked fresh for only about 10k yen. Best seafood ever to say the least. Half the crab legs were char-broiled.

（小樽の）市場の人気ナンバーワンは別の市場です。しかし、残念なことに、人気のある市場は、観光で出かける日曜日が定休日です。また、市場は朝が早いですから、夕方になると品数がぐっと減ってしまいます。しかし、新南樽市場は頑張っています。土日も営業していますし、夕方でも遅くならなければがっかりはしないと思います。駐車場が広くて無料なのもありがたいです。

新鮮な海鮮丼がとても美味しくて安いです。市場の中にお店があるので、鮮魚を使っています。車のパーキングも無料ですし、また行きたいお店です。

市場という事で朝早く行ったのですが営業は9時からという事で少し待ちました。市場というより海鮮の専門店が入っている大型スーパーという感じですかね。毛蟹やウニなど他の市場と比べてみても少し安い感じです。また小樽の中では一番海鮮専門店の数が揃っているとの事で品揃えも満足です。昼前に中に入っている深沢食堂で豚丼を食べましたが美味しかったですよ！

小樽築港と南小樽の間にあり、どちらからも徒歩10分弱です。あまり観光地化された場所ではありませんが、地元の人も訪れる鮮魚店が軒を連ねているため、魚介類の質については折り紙付きである上に、堺町の店よりも価格が安いです。とは言え、お店の方々は観光客にも馴れていますので、宅急便の手続きや当日持ち帰る場合の保冷剤の手配などもしっかりと行ってくれます。最後になりましたが、こちらで購入した生のほっけは脂がのっていて本当に美味しかったです。

駐車場が1階と屋上にあるのですが、どちらも混んでいます。特に屋上は、入る車と出る車でゴチャゴチャになってらちがあかない状態になっていることが数回あって、困ってしまいます。建物内は、ちゃんとした市場ももちろんあって、地元の食材を使った食堂もありそれだけでも楽しめるのですが、どういうわけかヤマダ電機とダイソーもあります。多少の違和感もありますが、いろいろ楽しめて良いところだと思います。

ニセコに滞在中、小樽に行ったついでにホッケの開きをはじめ、バフン雲丹や毛蟹など海産物を調達しました。　観光地にある生鮮市場のお土産屋さん風ではなく、価格も手頃で地元の台所的存在です。　南樽市場よりは駐車場が広く、車も停めやすいです。

ウイングベイ小樽の近くにある市場風のシュッピングセンターです。中に入ると市場があって、小樽ならではの海産物を買うことができて食堂もあります。なぜか隣にパン屋さんもありますが、ここのパンは美味しいです。２階に行くと、なぜかダイソーがあって、これがけっこう広いので普通に買い物があるときでも気軽に立ち寄れます。

正直市場自体は普通の印象。個人的には南樽市場の方が好きかな・・・でも別に悪いという訳ではありません。駐車場が整備されていて立ち寄りやすいのがいいですね。あと、敷地内に100円ショップがあるのも便利です。それより何より市場内の食堂がいい！リーズナブルな値段でボリュームもあり、大変満足でした。

ウイングベイ小樽の隣の市場。平成１１年のオープンした小樽で一番新しい市場だ。１００円ショップのダイソーやヤマダ電機の店舗も入っている。広い駐車場が完備されていて、観光バスがやってくる。魚の方は、夕方だったため売り切れてしまったものが多く、あまりお買い得なものは見あたらなかった。ここまで個人で来る価値はあるとは思えない。

かなり有名なのか、話題になる事が多かったので行ってみました。が、残念ながら普通の市場の印象、、、商品の良さ等が魅力なのでしょう。その後まっすぐ帰宅できるのだったら、もっとジックリ品定めをして楽しめたのでしょうか。
