This beautifully maintained Cathedral is the centerpiece of the historic town of Chitré. You do not have to be Catholic to appreciate the beauty and history of this church. Built as a typical Spanish Colonial Cathedral and has the usual Catholic artifacts.My wife and I are not Catholic but we were invited to a Christmas pageant. The ceremony was specular! Chitré has some of the most musically talented students in the country. Holding this pageant in the Cathedral is just another example of how the local community uses this beautiful historic building.You will definitely see me again this year at the same pageant...Panama Vagabond

Was married here July 14, 2012. Great location and Padre. Very hot in a suit. It is nice that every week I see where I got married.

Located right in the heart of Chitre, this is probably one of the best things to see here. The church is lit up beautifully in the night, but it's well worth paying a visit at daytime, to see the beautiful interior. The mahogany wood that's used widely inside really gives it a nice touch.

This is one of the main highlights of Chitre and shouldn't be missed. Most impressively it seems the church is primarily used as well... a church. People still seem to go here by the hundreds and because of this its looked after and well maintained.

It's a relic with history behind it. I felt as if part of a past from a long time ago. The locals must be very religious. This church has the center stage in this town.

I think the ceiling, built of virgin mahogany and the beams simply are unique. The church is lovely and stays cool even on the hottest days due to its raised roof construction and thick walls. They really did know how to build for comfort and beauty in those days...The church is always beautifully decorated with fresh flowers during patron saint days, and seems to be the focal point of a busy city. Highly recommend a visit if only for quiet contemplation.

A very picturesque cathedral situated in the middle of Chitré. Within, you feel an air of traquility due to the air and light which come flooding through the doors and open windows. Just looking around you can see the wooden beams stretching out on the ceiling and statues lining the walls. The services here look beautiful but unfortunately there wasn't enough space inside so I could only watch from outside, so if you want to go to a service there get there early, as it gets packed with locals. For me the best time to see the church is at night when it is all lit up, which makes it a great time to take out that camera of yours.

Very elegant with lots of dark mahogany wood with gold trim. Its quite tasteful and yet modern.Like most churches its very peaceful inside and its airy as well with the large doors wide open.At night its well lite up and is photogenic too.One of the steeples was struck by lightning 2 days after(26 of June) The San Juan Bautista Day and this was taken as a warning from GOD,according to some locals
