I was a bit worried at first to go through with this kind of trip up to San Ramon. The directions on the website didn't really give you much to understand the process of getting to the village you want to visit. But, determined to check out a deserted gold mine I found the office in San Ramon and went out to la reina. The guide Andres picked me up from the bus station and after a meal at his mother's house we went exploring.A great experience to say the least. Andres was very knowledgeable, and interesting. The coffee tour as well from the plantation to toasting the coffee, grinding and drinking with Anders's mother .not to mention the silence of outside noises the amazing home made vegetarian food. Very interesting and eye opening.

A fantastic opportunity to get close to and experience the rural Nicaragua. There's all sorts of differens things to do. It's a coffee producing area, so the classic is to get a tour of the fincas and learn about the coffee production and fair trade from a local very knownledge guide. It's an extremely beautiful area where you also can get tours in the mountains, to waterfalls, caves and an old gold mine. You can also stay the night in the communities either at rooms next to the family homes or at a ecoAlbergue. It's such a great experience! I have stayed with a family over a longer time and you can learn how to cook traditional food and get a glimps of their everyday life and learn first hand about the nicas. You can also help with the coffee harvest wich really makes you appreciate your coffe more;)
