As others have said, the museum is small but very informative. The designs of items you can buy here are unlike anything you'll find elsewhere. Modern designs using traditional techniques. The location is great--on the main shopping street in Santiago, straight up from the dock. Do yourself a favor and stop in here! They have walking tours where you can the meet the artisans and see them at work, and they offer weaving classes.

This is definitely a must see if you are touring the town of Santiago Atitlan. It's not a large museum but it has some of the most beautiful samples of Mayan weaving -- the traditional traje or clothing of the Tzuthuil Indigenous people who live on the shores of Lake Atitlan. There are some very beautiful woven products -- purses, scarves, wraps etc. for sale....they make wonderful gifts as they are original designs that you won't see anywhere else in Guatemala. For anyone interested in weaving you won't be disappointed in this lovely museum.

Small, well presented museum & store. Friendly staff, informative displays & videos. The handwoven articles are expertly designed, dyed and woven. All the gorgeous traditional Guatemalan colors & weaving techniques made into unique modern designs. Worth a visit.

Really incredible just how beautiful and intricate this work is. The cooperative ensures that woman have a future in Santiago and that their skills are maintained and passed to the next generation. Their hand woven cloths are simply fabulous and the explanation in the workshop very profesional.

The weavings here are stunning. It is a great place to get original pieces made by local weavers at a fair trade price.

A small museum in Santiago Atitlan of traditional weaving techniques and materials, and displays of typical clothing. The store sells beautiful backstrap loom handwoven articles, table runners, purses and bags, even some stuffed patchwork toys. Beautiful modern designs prevail, as the founder is a New York designer. Most items have a modern look done in traditional methods. It's a good thing to support Mayan women weavers!

The have international style, designs unlike any you'll see anywhere else. The museum part is very informative. Candis Krummel has been involved with weavers in Santiago since 1979 and this a project which works.

I was interested in the local weavings (one of the prime reasons I wanted to be in Santiago). The museum is very small but charming. They don't charge an admission so you can just wander in. There are nice pictures and explanations of how the weavings are done, starting with making the thread through the backstrap weaving process. They also have a demonstration of some of the process. They have a few things for sale which are gorgeous, sophisticated (and interesting) "fashion" interpretations of the traditional weavings. You should note that they also have weaving classes and I think tours of weaver. I wish I had time to do that.

I love seeing and feeling real traditional handywork, and I was blessed to experience that at this place.
