I would recommend this tour to anyone. Riding the back of an open top truck on the gravel road uphill and downhill was in itself a thrill. Semuc Champey is a real gem in the middle of the Alta Verapaz region, located in a valley it consists of limestone turquoise pools surrounded by a lush green forest in the canyon. It is possible to have a swim in the pools but just take care not to get too close to the rapids which are located at the top end of the terraces. Other activities include hiking the mirador which is a strenuous walk to the top where you will be rewarded with a great view of the pools and the surrounding valley, just be careful when going up or down as it can be slippery in places. You can also jump into the river or ride the river current on a rubber ring which can be fun if you can swim. Another activity is to walk inside the water-filled cave on the other side of the river.

If you are in shape, climb up to the Mirador. Be careful, it can be slippery. Definately swim! The day we swam wasn't hot but the water isn't cold and it was worth it. Walk up to where the river flows under the pool formations.

This was my favourite place in Guatemala. If you're looking for an adventure in a pristine setting of natural beauty, Semuc is a must see. The hike up to the lookout point is a tough one but allows for an incredible view of the limestone pools. Splashing, jumping, and swimming in the pools was so fun, and was followed by a leisurely float down the river on tubes. The highlight for me was the caving experience, which I would do again.

50q if you walk in without guided tour offered by hostel( these are usually about 150 q... Not including your lunch) Bring bathing suit, towel and if you have sensitive feet or are bothered by algae , shoes to walk in water at pools. There are two ways to get to the scenic point" el mirador " ... If you go straight to the pools you can avoid the 400 or so steps up to viewpoint, though it is a fun adventure, lest you have joint problems or have vertigo say. Great experience!!!

This was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. It was not easy to get there. Bounced around like popcorn in the back of a truck for hours, but it truly is a slice of heaven. The hike to the top is not easy but worth every drop of sweat. This is a must see.

Beautiful pools. Don't miss out on the view point hike and of course the view! A bit exhausting if you are not in shape but the 30min hike steep up on stairs is definitly worth it. I suggest to climb or jump from pool to pool and end up with a great view on the river. Some people wore their shoes because it's extremely slippy. If you do w tour I would definitly recommend the cave your as well, thrilling once in a livetime experience.Just be careful. I met regulary travelers who got sick after being in semuc champey/the cave. We could figure out that it was not the food so it must have been the water. 1/3 of the group got sick!!Try not to swallow water and maybe take a preventive pill after the tour. At least that helped me to stay healthy.

An amazing place. Take a cattle truck from Lanquín through the forest and be prepared to hike, swim and enjoy. Free lockers at the main swimming area. Do the strenuous hike to Mirador overlook. It is worth it.

I booked a day tour from Coban that include Lanquin Caves and Sumec Champey. To reach the waterfalls we spent over an hour in a 4x4 going over some very rough roads. I got a seat but others stood up in the back. For me travel is meant to be an adventure and this tour did not disappoint. At falls, there's a trail to Mirador, lookout. I found it very difficult at times. I'm 64 and in pretty good shape. In hindsight, I'd go directly to the pools and enjoy. You earned it and don't forget you've got to back over that road to meet up with your bus.

It is not totally fair that I rate this place because we didn't make it all the way. That is why I wanted to let you know that if you plan on making this trip on your own there are a few things you should know. There is a long (beautiful, if you don't get car sick) drive on a curvy paved road until you leave that road and go supposedly 8-10 km on a pretty rough rock road. I am from the South in the United States I own two 4x4 trucks and the road is rough. This is all before you get to the area where you have to pay a 4x4 truck to take you the next 14km. I was driving a mid-sized car and we had to turn around after 4 km on the dirt/rock road. My wife and brother in law were both very nauseous so we couldn't make it.Again I just want you to know it is a long bumpy trip. I WILL RETURN. (without wife and brother-in-law) and when I return I will be in a 4x4. I talked with family that live in country and they say that Semuc Champey is well worth the trip. They rent 4x4 and go there fairly often. They say on my next visit that they will take me and we will camp there.

Semuc Champey really is one the most beautiful places in Guatemala! It takes a while to get there from everywhere, but it is worth it!

I loved Semuc so much. It was so beautiful. Don't book the trip through the hostel (We stayed at Zepher Lodge). There's a guide named Carlos who has his office just next door to the gate of Zepher and he is cheaper and better. He used to work for Zepher but went out on his own. It was an amazing day- inside the caves for a few hours with candles playing on the natural slides inside, then tubing down the river, jumping of a rope swing into the river, jumping of a huge bridge into the river. Delicious lunch included. And then the pools. We had such a good time. The journey there from Lanquin is not pleasant BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT!!! Then Carlos invited us to a party that night where we drank and danced the night away with the locals. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Beautiful place, bit to expensive entrance. The water is refreshing. the little hike up to the look out is definitely a must u get a nice view over the natural pools. its pretty muddy so bring good shoes.

Booked a combo tour through Utopia hostel for Semuc and the caves. Honestly, the caves sealed the deal for me. I had never seen anything quite like this and it was righteous. Went through the caves, sometimes swam, with a single candle and there were only five of us including the guide. There's an entrance fee even if you don't go through a tour. But you need a guide! Do this if nothing else

Simply unforgettable place and just amazing! Waterfall and Laguna with blue turquoise water and swimming in the middle of jungles is just magic!

Great place.I did the tour from Coban and back in one day.Take into account that getting to Semuc involves riding a 4×4 truck standing in behind for about 40 minutes. That not always is suitable for the elderly travelers. The place itself is great. Water is a bit cold, rocks are slipery and sharp so you should have some suitable shoes. When you go, take with you a combination locker since there are lockers for storing your belongings while swimming.ENJOY!!!
