辽阳市曹雪芹纪念馆

Cao Xuequin Memorial Hall is a welcome example of an old building in a city in which the past has been mostly bulldozed away; this is one of few surviving historic buildings in the entire city centre. Yet at the time of our visit, this memorial hall for Cao Xuequin was doing very little to promote the city's heritage. The attendant was asleep in his booth and all but one of the rooms had been left locked. Even in that one open room, there was very little for the Western tourist. All of the labels were in Chinese and the exhibits didn't look particularly interesting anyway. Just dog-eared editions of Cao Xuequin's books and out of focus publicity stills from movies based on Xuequin's works. They hadn't even bothered to turn the lights on. This site really seems to have thrown in the towel.

Cao Xueqin is one of China's greatest writers and this was once his home in his hometown.I found it most interesting to see a small Chinese house with courtyard of his time(1700's).It is on the way to Liaoyang Museum from the city centre if you walk...
